Zorgverzekeraars Nederland, the Patients Federation, the Dutch AI Coalition and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS), are joining forces to search for AI solutions that can make a significant contribution to healthcare transformation in the Netherlands.
Contributions can include the care process, the accessibility of care but also improving the quality and affordability of care. The solution with the most potential impact can count on a cash prize worth €10, 000 that can be applied to the solution.
The Dutch healthcare system is facing increasing demand for care, an aging population, staff shortages, rising healthcare costs and high administrative burdens, among other issues. Health care transformation is crucial to ensure and improve accessibility, quality and affordability of care. In the Integral Care Agreement (IZA), healthcare parties and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport made agreements for the period until the end of 2025/beginning of 2026. Also in WoZo (Housing, Support and Care for the Elderly Program), TAZ (Future Resilient Labor Market Care and Welfare) and GALA (Healthy and Active Living Agreement) agreements were made regarding elder care, labor market and health support. Appropriate use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) can contribute to the needed care transformation and thus be significant in achieving societal goals.
Joining forces for transformation
Zorgverzekeraars Nederland, the Patient Federation, the Dutch AI Coalition and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport have joined forces to support AI solutions that can make an impactful contribution to care transformation. Together they set up a competition and €10,000 was made available.
Explicit search is made for AI solutions whose appropriate deployment contributes most to the societal tasks, as named in the IZA and the adjacent VWS programs (GALA, TAZ, WOZO). Key criteria for transformation include measurable impact within five years on healthcare utilization, reversing growth, ensuring accessibility, quality, affordability of care including retaining and unburdening healthcare professionals.
